Development of Dedicated dGEMRIC Protocol for Biochemical Imaging of the Temporomandibular Joint Disc at 3 Tesla: A Feasibility Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most complex joints in the human body. TMJ degenerative changes are studied by means of MRI morphological techniques. So far, to our best knowledge, there was no attempt to show the biochemical ultrastructure of cartilage in the TMJ in humans in-vivo. Our feasibility study show that the tracer accumulation occurs within 30 minutes and an inversion recovery technique in combination with application of delayed-Gadolinium Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Cartilage can reveal biochemical composition of TMJ in terms of GAG content.

Introduction Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction is a cause of headache, facial pain and referred otalgia, which can be quite debilitating to patients. MRI has been applied in limited circumstances to define contours of the articular disc, and to evaluate disc motion during translation of the condyle with opening and closing of the mouth. Broad implementation of an effective protocol has ...

Introduction: Internal derangement (ID) of TMJ is the most common type of temporomandibular disorders after muscle disorders and includes all disorders related to incoordination and dislocation of disc and condyle. Anterior disc displacement without reduction or closed lock will happen if the disc or condyle displaces severely or if the disc traps in the space in front of the condyle accompanie...

INTRODUCTION T1 mapping after delayed gadolinium enhancement (dGEMRIC) is a well-accepted biochemical MRI technique for the quantitative evaluation of the glycosaminoglycan concentration of cartilage tissue (1). For evaluation of articular cartilage, dGEMRIC is performed 90 minutes following contrast media (CM) administration, because this is the time interval required to reach equilibrium dist...

Introduction: Low back pain is the most prevalent orthopedic disorder and the first main cause of poor working functionality in developed as wells as many developing countries. In Absence of noninvasive in vivo measurement approaches, biomechanical models are used to estimate mechanical loads on human joints during physical activities. To estimate joint loads via musculoskelet...

Background and Aims: Disc displacement is the most common temporomandibular joint disorder and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard in its diagnosis. This disorder can lead to changes in signal intensity of magnetic resonance (MR). The purpose of this study was evaluation of correlation between relative signal intensity of MR images of retrodiscal tissue, superior and inferior ...
